The Purrfect Bubbles: What Cat Food Keeps My Bubbles Happy and Healthy
As a cat owner to my beautiful kitten, bubbles, nothing brings me more joy than seeing her happy and healthy. Expectially since while she's eating, she can't eat my face. Bubbles, my cat is super food motivated, like will meow as load as possible if I am a minute late to dinner. This motivation is a good thing because the biggest factors of a cat’s well being, is of course, the food they eat. When I started thinking about getting a cat, I went on a deep dive into what the best cat food is. This was very overwhelming because of the variety in options and sources. Once I looked into ingredients and the sources of where the ingredients come from, I found a way to perfect my cat’s diet. So if you are overwhelmed with what to feed your cats, let me share some insights into what keeps my bubbles purring with joy and healthy!
Why Cat Food Matters
Cats are carnivores, which means their bodies are designed to thrive on a diet that's based in animal protein. They can't efficiently process plant based proteins, so choosing a food that meets unique nutritional needs is crucial for their overall health. The right food can make all of the difference in keeping cats at their best.
Types of Cat Food
There are three types of cat food, dry food, wet food, and raw food. Each have their benefits but it is essential to understand the pros and cons of each for your cat’s health.
Dry Food
Lysine Cat Supplement
Dry cat food is convenient, easy to store, and often more affordable than wet food. Dry food is great for keeping teeth clean for cats and adds in calories to the diet, which helps underweight cats grow. However, dry food is high in carbs which cats don't really need much of. This can cause extreme weight gain. Dry food is also low in water, which cats desperately need.
Wet Food
Tiki Cat Dark Wet Food
Wet food is an excellent option for hydrating your cat, this is because it is made up of a higher percentage of moisture. Cats do not drink enough water on their own, so adding wet food to their diet helps prevent urinary tract issues and promotes overall hydration. Wet food tends to have a richer flavor which cats prefer. This is my favorite food to give to bubbles because it ensures that she is hydrated while having nutrients that help her body function.
Raw Food
Chicken Hearts
Raw food diets are seen as the most natural option for cats. These diets are made up of raw meats, organs, and eggs. This food can improve coat condition, digestion, protein levels, and energy levels. This is all great but raw food can be expensive and requires proper handling. There is a risk of you getting sick due to the food, so please wash your hands!
What to look For in Cat Food Ingredients
When choosing the best cat food, you have to look into the factors and benefits of each ingredient. Here are some key ingredients and factors:
Animal Protein: Look for high quality meat like chicken, turkey, or fish as the primary ingredient
Taurine: This is an amino acid that is essential for heart health in cats
No fillers: Look for food without corn, soy, or wheat, cats do not need those
Low carbohydrates: Cats do not need grains or excessive carbs in their diet because this can cause them to be overweight. Look for high protein, low carb food
Final Thoughts
The right food can make such a difference in your cats health and happiness. When bubbles first walked into my home, she was weak, underweight, sad, and her coat was lifeless. Once I started filling her diet with food that fulfill every need for her body she started to transform into the cat I have today, a cat that is healthy, strong, happy, and beautiful. You can do the same! Remember every cat is different, so it may take trial and error to create the perfect meal cat for your cat. Don't forget to provide fresh water to your meals to keep your kitten hydrated and feeling their best!
