The Ice Bubble: How Cryotherapy Can Boost Skin Glow

Cryotherapy has quickly become my latest skincare obsession, and I'm not alone on this new found love. This pratice has been around thousands of years. Living in Michigan, where winters feel endless, has its perks, one of them being that when I step outside, my face instantly feels fresher and tighter thanks to the crisp, cold air. That is cryotherapy in action. Whether it’s using an ice roller first thing in the morning to de-puff and energize, indulging in a cold facial to tighten and brighten, or even plunging my face into an ice cold water (like the polar plunge), incorporating cold therapy into my routine has done wonders for my skin. I love how it gives my face a lifted, refreshed look. Cold therapy is now an essential in my skincare routine!

What is Cryotherapy for Skin?

Cryotherapy, basically just “cold therapy,” means using cold temperatures on your skin to help your blood flow better, calm any redness or puffiness, and make your skin look healthier. You can do this in simple ways like at home ice facials, or go for fancier treatments at spas. I prefer at home treatments since my bank can't handle another charge.

Benefits of Cold Therapy for Your Skin

Using a large bowl, you can do your own face polar plunge!

Instantly Reduces Puffiness

Cold therapy basically helps shrink your blood vessels, which means it can help get rid of that annoying puffiness, especially around your eyes. Ice rollers are my go-to in the morning to make my tired eyes look more awake and less puffy.

Tightens Pores and Smooths Skin

Cold temperatures make pores appear smaller and less noticeable. This creates a smoother skin texture. For this reason, I like to use cold therapy around my pore prone areas like my nose and t-zone.

Enhances Natural Glow

The shock of cold on the skin increases blood flow to that area, this brings natural nutrients to the skin. This makes the skin brighter and have more of a glow. That is why cold therapy is perfect for the morning, because it makes me feel and look less dead.

Soothes Sensitive Skin

When my skin feels irritated from washing my face or using an intense face mask cryotherapy provides relief to my skin, while also reducing redness.

Ways to Incorporate Cold Therapy into Your Skincare Routine

Having an iced face mask in the morning is like a caffeine boost for the skin!

Ice Rolling

This is my most used method, because ice rollers tend to be affordable and feel the best in my opinion. The rollers are filled with a liquid that stays cool for long periods. I like to roll them on my face in the morning after applying moisturizer or serums for a refreshing boost

Ice Cube Facial

When I forgot to put my ice rollers in the fridge, this is a simple way to get in some cold therapy. I like to add some ice cubes in a cloth and rubbing it on the skin, this is a super cost friendly way to get the same benefits as other treatments

Refrigerated Skincare

Another one of my favorite ways to wake up my skin is adding face masks, serums, and skin treatments into the fridge. This is an easy way to enhance all of the benefits of your normal skincare routine
